Free Money? You Don't Say....

For the past few years I've funded my own work through grants, fellowships and residencies aimed at artists and journalist. During that time I've gotten to live and travel to places like Tanzania, Germany, Spain and Slovakia. I've also tried my best to share upcoming deadlines among my friends and collegues.

But all that cross posting is a bit tiresome and of course only reaches the people I happen to know. So I've decided to start this blog as a resource to those of you out there who are looking for some "free money."

Of course nothing's ever truly free so I'll also talk about what it takes to be successful when applying for grants and fellowships and well as where to look. This will be a curated list of resources and deadlines but whenever possible I will try to give you links to places where you can find information on your own.

A great resource for finding upcoming deadlines for all types of artists.

ResArtis

One of the two places I most reguarly visit when looking for artist in residency programs around the world. They also have a great deadlines section.

TransArtists

The other great site for residency listing that has its own deadlines section.

College Art Association

http://www.collegeart.org/opportunities/
They have a regularly updated cite which features great sub sections like residencies, fellowships and exhibition opportunities.

Chicago Artists Resource

While many of the postings a specific to the Chicago area they do a great job of listing national and international calls as well.
