Founded in 2007, Spiro Arts Artist in Residence (AiR) program features a diverse community of visual artists, composers, and writers from around the world. The program grants residents the opportunity to live and work as a part of a creative and supportive community, in a beautiful historic setting. Spiro Arts is dedicated to supporting the residents in the creation of new works by offering an environment that promotes risk-taking and innovation. Criteria of selection includes overall quality of work, originality, and potential for growth.
The residencies are fully subsidized: each resident receives shared housing (private room/bath) in a fully furnished condo, ample studio space with 24/7 access, along with a $600.00 (USD) stipend. All residents are responsible for their own food, travel, materials, shipping, specialized tools, and fees for work done outside the premises of Spiro Arts.
New for 2013, in collaboration with Park City Mountain Resort Spiro Arts Artists in Residence will work in a semi-private studio building located within the resorts plaza. The studio is a low-tech and non-equipment-based facility, though basic equipment such as large easels, taborets, and worktables are available.
Spiro Arts encourages interactions with the community, and requires that all accepted residents be prepared to engage the public. Each resident must take part in the Open Studio event at the end of the residency term. The public may be invited to work-in-progress receptions, and studio visits do take place from time to time.
