2014-15 CCPA Young Composer Competition

The Composition Program at the Chicago College of Performing Arts (CCPA) of Roosevelt University is pleased to announce a new composition competition for high school students in the Chicago area and its suburbs. Dr. Stacy Garrop and Dr. Kyong Mee Choi, both Associate Professors of music composition, offer the following prizes:
1st PLACE:
$100 cash prize, presented during the Monday, April 6, 2015 Composition Program Recital at 7:30 PM in Ganz Hall.
a performance of the piece given by CCPA musicians on this recital.
a rehearsal of the piece with the musicians prior to the recital.
a CD recording of the piece’s performance from the recital.
a 45-minute composition lesson with either Dr. Stacy Garrop or Dr. Kyong Mee Choi.
a pizza party for the winners and parents prior to the recital with composition faculty/students.
2nd PLACE:
$75 cash prize, presented during the Monday, April 6, 2015 Composition Program Recital at 7:30 PM in Ganz Hall.
a 45-minute composition lesson with either Dr. Stacy Garrop or Dr. Kyong Mee Choi.
a pizza party for the winners and parents prior to the recital with composition faculty/students.
3rd PLACE:
$50 cash prize, presented during the Monday, April 6, 2015 Composition Program Recital at 7:30 PM in Ganz Hall.
a 45-minute composition lesson with either Dr. Stacy Garrop or Dr. Kyong Mee Choi.
a pizza party for the winners and parents prior to the recital with composition faculty/students.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
Students must be between the ages 14-18 years old and enrolled in a high school within Chicago or its suburbs. Students from outside the suburbs may apply if they so wish; however, they will not be compensated for travel or hotel should their work be chosen for an award. All winners are required to attend the April 6, 2015 recital in order to collect their prize money.
Each student may submit one piece for consideration. Previously awarded pieces in this competition cannot be re-entered.
The piece can be any duration up to 7 minutes.
The piece can have up to four performers. You may use one or two of any of the following instruments: flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, saxophone, horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, violin, viola, cello, double bass, and piano. You may use up to four percussionists, and up to four singers. No electronics can be included.

You will be required to submit the application form, full score, and full set of parts by the deadline. All will be submitted through our online application.
The deadline is Monday, February 2, 2015. All entries must be received by this date.
